Let There Be Light
In the beginning, God . . .
Created the heavens and the earth.
The earth had no form and was empty of life,
blackness touched the countenance of the deep,
and the Spirit of God enveloped the waters.
God said, "Let there be light,"
and there was light.
God affirmed the light as good,
and divided the light from the darkness.
The light God called "day,"
and the darkness he called "night."
There was evening.
There was morning.
Thus began the first day.
